The Founders
The founder of Skimbaco is Katja Presnal, a former runway model from Finland. She has an extensive business background before choosing to be a stay-at-home-mom. Last two years she has been a personal shopper of children’s clothing for her friends in Finland while being a stay-at-home-mom. She founded Skimbaco with her husband Matt in 2006. Matt is currently an emergency medical service helicopter pilot.

Katja met Matt, a Texan, in Germany in 1997 and they got married a year later. They had lived together in three different countries and seven different states until they finally settled down to raise their children in Durango, Colorado. They have three children, whom they call their own little United Nations, since all three were born in different countries.

They moved to Colorado to live a lifestyle that Skimbaco represents: Living close to Nature, Respecting the Nature and Life, by living their lives the Fullest every day. They wanted to leave the corporate world behind and live life to their true values.

The Name
The name SKIMBACO is a word for a lifestyle that the company represents. “SKIMBA” is a Finnish slang word for downhill skiing and Co stands for Colorado. Even though skiing in only one way to stay active, and the nature provides endless possibilities to enjoyment all over the world, the “skiing in Colorado” was the fondest for the founders, and they resided in Colorado when starting the company.

Combining a Finnish word with an American state also symbolizes how two different cultures combined can make a perfect symbiosis.

The Lifestyle
Skimbaco presents a way of living – a lifestyle that wants to preserve the beauty of nature by carefully choosing the products we use and a lifestyle that respects life in every way. Skimbaco promotes a lifestyle where people should never entirely abandon their inner child and forget how to enjoy little things in life. Skimbaco lifestyle draws influences from different cultures of the world and we want to celebrate the differences of them by teaching the children to respect and enjoy all of the cultures. The things that make us all different, makes the world a more colorful place.

The Mission
Skimbaco’s mission is to promote the ecological and philanthropic ideology by helping people to find exceptional products that are not only fun and functional but also environmentally and socially conscious. Our mission is to spread the sunshine - make people happy. We are proud to do business with small family-owned businesses, which share the same values and commitments as we do. Most of our business parteners have child related charity programs, and we donate part of our proceeds to local and global charities.
